In Soldiers Clothes

Short Film

Role: Costume Designer

Director: Matthew McPherson

Historical Advisor: Andrew Robertshaw

This short film brings to life the story of Dorothy Lawrence, an investigative journalist who disguised herself as a British soldier to report from the front line in WWI in France.

I was the Costume Designer on the project, under the direction of the the Production Designer, Director and Historical Advisor. We sourced the civilian costume for Dorothy from costume hire houses in London and Bournemouth as well as shopping online some bits. I also did some alterations and additions to the costumes and breakdown, both before and during the shooting. The military uniforms came from the stock of our historical advisor, Andrew Robertshaw, who also taught me a lot about the British WWI military uniform.
